CHN Energy strongly implements the innovation-driven strategy and gives innovation foremost place in its strategic direction. By continuously improving its scientific innovation system and pushing forward the breakthroughs into key areas, CHN Energy gains novel momentum and advantages in the upcoming competition. At present, CHN Energy directly runs 4 R&D institutes, named Guodian Institute of Science and Technology, National Institute of Clean-and-low Carbon Energy, Guodian Institute of New Energy Technology and National Institute of Energy Technology and Economics respectively. Besides, there are 9 institutes run by CHN Energy’s branches or subsidiaries, with 1883 researchers. In total, CHN Energy owns 12 national-level research platforms, 5 academician workstations and 13 postdoctoral workstations and has cultivated 1 academician independently. With 7 academicians working as CHN Energy’s chief scientists, 3 cooperative innovation centers were founded based on the academicians and their teams, namely the Cooperative Innovation Center of Clean-and-efficient Usage of Coal and Climate Change, the Cooperative Innovation Center of New Energy and Environment Protection and the Cooperative Innovation Center of Intelligent Power Generation.
In March, lately, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology unveiled the 2022 List of Excellent Solutions for Industrial Internet Apps. The “solution targeting at electricity trading and retail” developed by CHN Energy Digital Intelligence Technology Company made the list. The power trading decision-making support and intelligent electricity sales system began to be built by CHN Energy Digital Intelligence Technology Company at the end of 2020. The system includes three subsystems: marketing management and control, transaction decision-making support, electricity sales business and customer management. Recently, the marketing management and control subsystem has been fully put into use, forming a three-level application covering 36 subsidiaries, 776 power generation units, and 1,736 users.
On March 10, 2023, the “High-quality and Efficient Pile-drilling Method for Concrete Anti-seepage Wall in the Drift Stratum” project initiated by the Jinchuan Power Plant of Daduhe Company, a subsidiary of China Energy, won first prize in the 2022 Electric Power Construction Quality Management Group Activity organized by China Electric Power Construction Enterprise Association, standing out from over 1,400 entries. The project was completed 13 days ahead of schedule, generating economic benefits exceeding 2.23 million yuan.
On February 23, 2023, the "Railway Freight Car Automatic CNC Paint Stripping and Rust Removal Machine" technology achievement transformation project of the Shaanxi Branch of China Energy Railway Equipment Company successfully passed the acceptance test after more than 240 days of trial operation and improvement. The equipment uses mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic linkage control technology to achieve the function of stripping and rust removal for the axle body, axle neck, dustproof plate seat, and wheel rim of the railway car axle, improving the efficiency of rust removal work, reducing the use of steel wire wheels, lowering material cost expenditure, and effectively improving the on-site working conditions and air quality.
In February, the research team headed by the National Institute of Clean-and-Low-Carbon Energy (NICE) under CHN Energy made major progress in the study of new-type antitoxin catalysts with crystal defects. The environmental catalysis research team at the Environmental Protection Technology Research Center of NICE used defect engineering technology to introduce anionic oxygen vacancy defects into commercial titanium dioxide and develop a new type of denitration catalyst without any active metallic components, and then conducted studies on relevant mechanisms. This was the first time that the research team developed commercial titanium dioxide-based denitration catalyst that contains anionic oxygen vacancy defects.
On January 15, 2023, the Dagangshan Branch of Dadu River Company completed the upgrading and transformation of the 500 kV high-voltage cable optical fiber temperature measuring device for Dagangshan Hydropower Station. This upgrade transformed the traditional distributed optical fiber temperature measuring device to the cutting-edge ultra-weak fiber grating monitoring device, achieving centimeter level spatial resolution, fine sensing and over-temperature warning of the cable surface temperature field, and laying a solid foundation for the safe and reliable operation of 500 kV high-voltage cables.
On January 3, 2023, the cloud-edge collaborative resource scheduling platform pioneered by the Longyuan Power, a subsidiary of China Energy, was officially launched nationwide. This system breaks through traditional application development and deployment modes, adopts new application containerization and distributed deployment modes, and flexibly schedules and allocates physical server resources, thus reducing reliance on application architecture, operating environment, and software versions and achieving full lifecycle management of cloud-edge multi-level applications.
On March 28, the Boao Forum for Asia Annual Conference 2023 kicked off on Dongyu Island in Boao, Hainan Province. The vanadium flow battery energy storage system developed by the National Institute of Clean-and-Low-Carbon Energy (NICE) under CHN Energy debuted in Boao to serve the event. To better spread the vanadium flow battery energy storage technology, NICE developed the vanadium flow battery energy storage module to connect into the energy system of the Boao Forum for Asia’s media center, achieving in-situ consumption and absorption of new energy-based green electricity. It ensured the Boao Forum for Asia’s media center to be close to the zero-load state in both peak and slack periods, facilitating the smooth convening of the Boao Forum for Asia Annual Conference.
On March 24, 2023, the 30MW rooftop photovoltaic power station project in Tangshan Zhengfeng Iron & Steel Co., Ltd. of New Energy Company of CHN Energy Hebei Branch officially began commercial operation. Following an operation mode of “generating power for self-use and transferring extra electricity to the grid”, the project can generate electricity of 33,174,000 kWh, save 10,114.64 tons of standard coal and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 27,600.47 tons, sulfur dioxide emissions by 5.31 tons, nitrogen oxide emissions by 5.9s4 tons and dust emissions by 1.06 tons each year, thus creating remarkable economical, environmental and social benefits.
Lately, China Longyuan Power Group Co., Ltd. (“Longyuan Power” for short) under CHN Energy put into operation China’s first meteorological atlas that it developed for domestic new energy operators, achieving integrated display of meteorological historical data and forecast data and initiating the long-term meteorological forecast technology. The historical atlas of the system covers the whole world and can display monthly and yearly meteorological data over the past 30 years; and the forecast atlas covers the entire country and can display short-term, mid-term and long-term meteorological data.
On March 7, 2023, the "Development and Application of Full Load Denitration Technology for Thermal Power Plants Based on Water Side Regulation" of Jiangsu Taicang Branch of China Energy was awarded the second prize of 2022 Electric Power Technology Innovation Award. After the application of full load denitration technology, the company’s number of hours of nitrogen oxide exceeding the standard after each startup and grid connection has dropped from three to zero, and its annual emission of nitrogen oxide has been reduced by 15 tons, thus meeting the emission standards of full load nitrogen oxide and making a positive contribution to local emission reduction and winning the blue sky defense war.
As of March 7, 2023, the "automatic spray of super large mining height gangway" of Shangwan Mine of Shendong Coal, a subsidiary of China Energy, had been in use for one month, reducing the dust concentration of the working face by 70% and ensuring the safety of on-site operations to the maximum extent, which is of milestone significance to dust-free mine construction.
On February 24, the “design and development of in-situ self-healing anti-toxic catalyst and its application in the field of energy catalysis” project launched by the National Institute of Clean-and-Low-Carbon Energy (NICE) under CHN Energy won the Excellent Project Award at the finals of the 2022 National Disruptive Technology Innovation Contest. Catalysts with crystal defects can not only significantly reduce costs, but also may eradicate the problem of catalyst poisoning. Moreover, they can not only achieve catalytic elimination and efficient emission reduction of nitrogen oxides, volatile organic compounds, methane, etc., but also have the potential to be applied in energy and chemical fields such as energy storage, green ammonia synthesis, and ammonia oxidation. A paper on the latest findings of the project was recently published in EES Catalysis (Energy and Environmental Science – Catalysis), an authoritative journal on energy and environmental protection, as a cover article.
On February 24, the 100MW/200MW energy storage station of Ningdong Photovoltaic Base under Ningxia Power Co., Ltd. (“Ningxia Power” for short), a subsidiary of CHN Energy, was connected to the grid. The energy storage station is a supporting facility for Ningxia Power’s 2MW integrated photovoltaic base, one of China’s first large-scale wind-photovoltaic power base projects. It has a planned total capacity of 200MW/400MW, and the completed phase of the project has a capacity of 100MW/200MW. The energy storage station adopts safe, reliable lithium iron phosphate battery cells for energy storage with great consistency, high conversion rate and long cycle life, as well as a non-walk-in liquid-cooled containerized energy storage system.
On January 30, 2023, GD Power Shanghaimiao Company, a subsidiary of CHN Energy, received the award of the Xinhua Credit Jinlan Cup Technology Innovation Case for Carbon Peaking and Carbon Neutrality for its project "China’s First 1GW Thermal Power Ultra Large All Steel Structure Indirect Air Cooling Tower". Compared with traditional concrete intercooling towers, this innovative project has the advantages of frost resistance, good seismic performance, and convenient installation. It meets the national energy conservation requirements and environmental protection policies. It can save a large amount of cement, sand, and stone, without generating construction waste. In addition, when the steel structure cooling tower reaches its service life and is retired, the main steel components can still be recycled—a prominent advantage in ensuring safe and high-quality construction and green transformation of the project.
