Ningxia Electric Power’s 2GW Coal Mining Subsidence Area Photovoltaic Project Broke Ground

On July 25, the Lingwu 2GW composite photovoltaic base project in the Lingshao DC coal mining subsidence area of Ningxia Electric Power Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of CHN Energy, started construction, injecting new impetus into the ecological protection and high-quality development pilot zone of the Yellow River basin.

The 4GW photovoltaic project in Ningxia Electric Power’s coal mining subsidence area is one of the second batch of large-scale wind and photovoltaic power bases in desert and wasteland areas in China. It was registered at the Development and Reform Commission of Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region on April 20 this year. The Lingwu 2GW coal mining subsidence area photovoltaic project is one of the two key projects recently launched in Lingwu (High-tech Zone), Yinchuan. It is located in the wasteland of coal mine goaf and subsidence area in Majiatan Town and Baitugang Township, in Lingwu City, Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, with a 200MW/400MWh supportive energy storage project. The first phase of the project, with a capacity of 1GW, is planned to be connected to the grid before the end of the year, and put into full operation by 2024.

The project is an important green energy base of Ningxia’s West-to-East Power Transmission Project. It adopts more than 20 kinds of advanced technologies and equipment such as homemade drones, unmanned cleaning technology, and 5G+ BeiDou, and strives to build an “encyclopedia” of Ningxia’s regional photovoltaic industry. When completed, it will provide 3.8 billion kWh of clean electricity every year, save 1.15 million tons of standard coal and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 3.15 million tons, with remarkable benefits in energy conservation and emission reduction. It can play a vital role in realizing clean energy substitution, promoting energy structure transformation, and improving the quality of the eco-environment.
